Our Sponsors

AFL Investments chose to be the principal sponsor of this exciting award programme because the company shares both the brand identity and vision of the Prism Award.

AFL Investments is represented by a lighthouse prism as its logo and, in the same way that a prism refracts light, our team of investment advisors and financial planners shed a new objective light on the finances of our clients. We offer products and services to support high net worth individuals, endowments, trusts, pension plans and institutional investors. By combining institutional buying power with superior personalised service, AFL Investments creates solutions based upon our client’s specific goals and objectives. Our focus on risk management and capital preservation within our portfolios is designed to achieve long-term performance success.

We are proud to support the AFL Prism Award as a means of recognising the success of Bermuda-based professional photographers in using the medium to capture emotion and tell a story through each image.

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda is pleased to be the host venue for the inaugural AFL Prism Lifetime Achievement Award. Our sincere congratulations go to our very first winner, Tony Cordeiro.

We are proud to be playing an integral part in celebrating the lifetime accomplishments of Bermuda’s resident photographers – an aspect of Bermuda’s artistic history that was previously unrecognized until now. Over the years Masterworks has hosted photographic exhibitions, from both abroad and for the BPPA Biennials, and we believe the Prism Award is a very important development for professional photography in Bermuda.

Masterworks has a long history and deep tradition of supporting photography as an art form; in fact photography makes up an important segment of our permanent collection. We are looking forward to the opportunity to participate in this annual award by being part of the selection committee for future recipients.

The BPPA is very thrilled to launch the Prism Award. It was an idea that evolved out of other projects of an International scope that were blunted by limits on present available exhibition space. Disappointments led to discussions between the BPPA and AFL Investments through an introduction by Gerald Simons, The head of Argus Insurance and a keen photographer in his own right. The BPPA had shifted its focus to creating an award for outstanding photography, after not being able to host the World Press Awards yearly awards exhibition. Gerald saw the fit with AFL as a possible sponsor and set up the initial meeting to discuss the idea. The hard work began from that point from moving from a basic concept to the finished Award and branding. The BPPA helped the design team by bringing the idea that the award had to be something more than an object. It was vital that the award be something that interacts with something at the heart of photography. Light was the key and the Prism was the active object that revealed the colours of its essential character. The award is alive with light and we hope that this year’s recipient and those in the future will reflect on their work with light and the many gifts of seeing they shared through photography and excellence to their craft.
